Buthidaung -- The Burmese (Myanmar) Border Guard Police
(BGP) staged an interview with a Rohingya cleric in northern Buthidaung on
Friday (Sept 22) afternoon after a landmine explosion occurred in the premise
of the 'Fir Saab' Islamic Religious Institution in the morning.
The interview –
with an influential cleric named 'Mv Qutub Uddin' conducted by the BGP
themselves and posted on the Facebook page of the Office of the Burmese Army
Commander In-Chief -- looks fake, forced and pre-decided in which the BGP had
him blame ARSA (Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army) for the landmine plantation and
attempting to destabilize the region.
Regarding the
staged video interview with the cleric, a villager commented "the
religious leader was one of the villagers who fled from the village to escape
from mass-killings by the Burmese military. He was forcibly brought back to the
village by the BGP for the video interview because he's an influential
religious person. Even you can feel when you watch the video carefully that he
was feeling uncomfortable; and being forced and directed on what he had to say."
Locals believe that the Burmese army have planted the anti-personnel landmine which exploded accidentally.
"The Burmese
soldiers have encamped at the religious institution site twice. One infantry
unit numbering around 30 troops used the building for 1 week from August 29 and
another did for 4 days from September 10", said a local villager to RB
News.
Another villager
said "the Burmese military summoned some villagers from neighbouring
villages for a meeting at the religious site on September 19. That is a
2-storey building. Some military held the meeting with the villagers at the 1st
floor and some other remained at the ground floor. I suspect they planted the
landmine meanwhile. No armed groups have come or done any activities
here."
Nobody was
injured or killed in the landmine explosion yesterday morning. We reported
briefly about the landmine explosion on twitter at around 12:30pm (Myanmar
Time) on Friday and later it was reported by the (Myanmar State Counsellor)
Information Committee and the Office of the Burmese Army Commander In-Chief by
shifting the blame on ARSA.
A human rights
activist based in Maungdaw said "when you have explosive materials, it's
not difficult to make landmines. So, that is even easier for the Burmese
soldiers to make. So, shifting the blame on ARSA just on the basis that the
landmines were hand-made is pretty amateurish. This could be another attempt by
the Burmese military to target civilians and their properties in the name of
operations against ARSA.
"Besides, I
don't see any reason why ARSA, who are Muslims, would plant landmine inside the
premise of an Islamic Religious Institution. The whole incident seems conspired."
Amnesty
International and CNN News have reported about targeted plantation of anti-personnel
landmines by the Burmese military amidst Rohingya areas in northern Arakan.

Maungdaw -- Rumors among Rohingya people are ripe that clashes between the Burmese armed forces and the fighters from ARSA Resistance Group would break out in the heart of Maungdaw tonight (Sept 21) or at forthcoming nights.
The Burmese (Myanmar) government has rammed up numbers of troops in the downtown of Maungdaw and surrounding areas since yesterday evening triggering immense fears among the local Muslim Rohingyas.
Our sources have confirmed that the rumors stemmed from the government sources and have started spreading among the Rohingyas since 11:30pm (on Sept 20). The increase in numbers of the troops and the subsequent rumor-mongering are apparently intended to create panic among the remaining local Rohingyas and make them flee from the country.
The sources have further confirmed that the government is misusing some Hindus to make random calls to local Rohingya villagers to make the rumor go viral.
Since August 25, the Myanmar military have launched a scorched-earth operation against the entire Rohingya population under pretext of counter-insurgency operations carrying out mass-killings of over 3,500 Rohingya civilians; forcing nearly 500,000 Refugee exodus into Bangladesh; burning down over 200 Rohingya villages (i.e. 2/3 of Rohingya areas) in Maungdaw, Buthidaung and Rathedaung Townships.
The UN Secretary General, the UN Human Rights Commissioner, Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International have unanimously described the plight of Rohingya as 'a Textbook Case of Ethnic Cleansing.'

Maungdaw -- A boat carrying ethnic Rohingya people fleeing violence in Myanmar capsized on Monday (Sept 13) night after a gang of pirates attempted to rob them in the Naff river, killing at least 6 people, according to reliable sources.
And with dozens still missing, it is feared that the death toll could rise up to at least 39 that include men, women and children.
The boat was carrying over 50 displaced Rohingya people escaping from brutal massacres, systematic arsons, tortures and rapes being carried out by the Myanmar armed forces (the military and the BGP) and the Rakhine Buddhist extremists in Northern Arakan since August 25.
Six dead bodies were found agrounded on the Naff river bank in Bangladesh, according to local fishermen.
11 people survived from the horrific incident, who told us what had happened. Of the survivors, three are men, 2 teenagers and one woman. All are from Buthidaung Township.
Since August 25, we have been witnessing widespread arson attacks on Rohingya villages, burning down villages one by one, horrific massacres and summary executions of countless (Rohingya) civilians, rapes against women, massive displacements, unimaginable stream of refugee exodus into Bangladesh and unimaginable horrors of atrocity crimes.
Almost two third of ethnic Rohingya people in Northern Arakan have been displaced and villages depoulated by the Myanmar armed forces under pretext of responding to attacks on some police posts and military bases by Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) on early August 25 morning.
The UN Human Rights Commissioner Zeid Ra'ad al Hussein has called the violence against Rohingya 'a textbook example of ethnic cleansing.'

More than 500 people have been executed in cool blood massacres in the township since August 25. Over 35,000 people have been forced out of their homes or displaced; have been dehydrated and hungry for days.
Since then, most of these displaced villagers, old, men, women and children alike, are attempting to make to Bangladesh by walking miles across ‘Mayu Mountains’ and ‘Vast Swathes’; and taking boats amidst extreme dangers for their lives.
