Atrocitities, Rapes and Looting Continue against Rohingyas -Arakan, Burma
Sunday, 19th August 2012, 03:00AM
Maung Daw
“On 16th August 2012 at 11 O’ Clock night, the In-Charge of Oo Daung NaSaKa camp of southern Maung Daw together with the village chairman, Pru Wai Aung (a Rakhine) and another Rakhine man raided the house of a poor Rohingya man called Salimullah, son of Shormulluk, (50 years old). As soon as they (NaSaKa in-charge, Village Chairman and another Rakhine) got into his house, they attempted to rape his under-aged daughter. When Salimullah and his wife tried to protect their daughter, NaSaKa In-Charge severely beat them and took the Rohingya man to the NaSaKa Camp Base 8 in Mayrulla (Myint Hlut). It is not know that what is going on with him now” reported by Faiz from Alay Than Kyaw.
“At 10:00pm on the same day, the military from Tharay Kunbaung camp and Natalas (new settlers) from the nearby village attacked Lambaguna Village (in southern Maung Daw). They started to harass villagers and to loot their properties. They raided the houses of Habezullah s/o Lal Mia and Esoup s/o Lal Miya and looted 430,000 Kyats and 750,000 Kyats respectively. Soon after, they attempted to rape Rohingya girls. When the villagers screamed, cried and shouted, some nearby villagers rushed to the spot to help the victimized people in Lambaguna. Military opened fire at the villagers. Four Rohingyas were shot dead and one woman was severely beaten. One of the corpses of Rohingya deceased was recovered and given funeral at 10:00AM on 18th August 2012. The other three dead bodies are missing and might be taken to their camps. The profiles of those four Rohingyas killed are:
Name Age
1) Abdu Salam s/o Amir Hussein 35 years (dead body missing)
2) Karimullah s/o Yasin 28 years (dead body missing)
3) Shaf Miya s/o Yasin 32 years (dead body missing)
4) Nurul Haque s/o Sultan Ahmed 45 years (dead body recovered)
The profile of the beaten Rohingya woman is:
1) Noor Jahan D/o Ashraf Miya 35 years
At 2pm on 18th August 2012, some Rakhine extremists stabbed four Rohingya men near a Jetty between a Rakhine village and a Rohingya village at the village track of Maung Daw Tsp. Soon after, NaSaKa came to the village and fired at Rohingyas in the village. Many were seriously wounded and taken to the hospital in Maung Daw. Now they are in Maung Daw hospital.
As soon as the new moon appears, there will be Eid (Muslim Festival after the month of fasting) and Muslim will pray Eid prayer. Yet, there are arbitrary arrests, tortures and extortion of money going on against Rohingyas. Educated Rohingyas, their religious teachers, humanitarian workers are still in fear of being arrested and can’t stay at home. On 17th August 2012, many poor Rohingyas were beaten and tortured by Hlutin (Security Froces) at Bo Mu Village near to government hospital. Two of them are Akram S/o Abdul Amin (28 years) and Amanullah S/o Nagu Miah (30 years) from Kadir Bill village of Maung Daw. Although many Rohingyas are killed, tortured, arrested and extorted money from, yet there are hardly any evidence of that because there are no International Media and Independent Observes there. This region is made technologically very backward by the Burmese government” said Qutub from Maung Daw
“On 18th August 2012, the members of committees of the Mosques in Maung Daw called to the office of Maung Daw Administration. Rohingyas were asked to pray Eid Prayer (for Muslims, five times daily prayers are more important than the Eid prayer). There has been a strong plot on why Rohingyas were ordered to perform Eid prayer. Government and Rakhines are planning to shoot video while Rohingyas pray and show it to the world that Arakan has become peaceful (at a time when they are continuing all kinds of atrocities and tortures against Rohingyas). So, there is no need to send investigations, international media or independent observers. Authorities threatened that if they don’t perform Eid Prayer, they all will be arrested” a Rohingya from Myoma Kayin reported on the condition of anonymity.
Mass Arrests and Arbitrary Extortion of Money in Maung Daw
From 13th Aug 2012 to 16th August 2012 (in four days)
“On 15th August 2012, In-Charge of NaSaKa Camp based in Oo Daung arrested Yakub S/o Aye Sha Dullah from Oo Daung and extorted Kyat 300,000. SaRaPha (State Security Affairs) in Alay Than Kyaw arrested Rohingyas and extorted the of money mentioned below.
1) Rohimullah s/o Moggul 250,000 Kyats
2) Boshor s/o Salamat 200,000 Kyats
3) Abdullah s/o Nukmal Hakim 300,000 Kyats
4) Boshir s/o Ahmed 500,000 Kyats
5) Mamun Rashid s/o Mv. Haroon 200,000 Kyats
6) Furkan Ahmed s/o Ali Johar 200,000 Kyats
7) Ismail s/o Kala Miya 200,000 Kyats
8) Mv. Karim s/o Mohammed Amin 200,000 Kyats
9) Maburaman s/o Abduraman 200,000 Kyats
10) Rohim s/o Noor 700,000 Kyats
Rathedaung
During the joint attack on Rohingyas in Rathedaung in last June and July, many Rohingyas were killed, their houses were burned and thousands were ousted from many villages in the region. Some of these villages are
1) Thayet Pyin Village (made up of 200 Rohingyas’ houses)
2) Prime Chaung Village (made up of 60 Rohingyas’ houses)
3) Kudik Chaung Village (made up of 50 Rohingya Houses)
4) Annok Pyin Village (made up of 550 Rohingyas’ houses)
Three thousand members of Rohingyas from these villages are now languishing in the villages of Shilkali, Don Sey, Bossara (Thawin Chaung) and Aandaang of southern Maung Daw. Their situation is just getting worse day by day because of starvation, lack of shelter and no medication. They are mostly suffering from Malaria and Diarrhea. Every day, there are 10 to 12 Rohingyas dying, of whom, most are children. Worse still, even they are targeted and harassed by Burmese Security Force. They are critically in need of urgent relief and assistances. If this continues, none of them can be hoped to survive. Besides, on daily basis, Rohingyas from the remaining villages of Rathedaung are being arrested for no reason” reported by Abbas from Hossara.
Sittwe Update
According to a reliable source from Sittwe, since the violence against Rohingyas started, there have been 1500 Rohingyas either missing or killed. There are 2200 Rohingyas severely injured Rohingyas who are getting proper treatment. And there were twenty four mosques were burned by the local authority and Rakhine hooligans. Yet, Burmese government is ridiculously saying that there are only about hundreds people dead. They are lying to the world as they have been doing for decades.

Since June 2012, the military, police and NaSaKa have been collaboratively arresting the innocent Rohingya Muslims from Buthidaung and Maung daw Township, Rakhine State and confining them in jail. The arrested Rohingyas had been tortured brutally by all means before they were sent to jail as well. They were forced to be naked in jail and to eat using their mouths from the floor like animals where the foods were spread over. Most of arrestee passed away suffering severe pain resulted from the extreme abuses in the jail. Corpses were buried at a place of near to the Buthidaung jail. Last month, 43 innocent Rohingya passed away in this jail and were buried in the mentioned place.
Currently, according to the some reliable sources, more innocent Rohingya arrestees were brought to court for hearing. But, no one is allowed to go near to the court. It is the way how they were taken to court from jail: first, they were taken to court by prison bus and when it was about to reach to the court, they were forced to crawl from the street to court like animals. Pleading is forbidden for them and they were sentenced to jail unjustly.
The NaSaKa head that just arrived to Maungdaw as the replacement of Colonel Aung Gyi is a Rakhine Buddhist himself and have been arresting the innocent Rohingya Muslims with lame reasons. The native Rohingya Muslims are too afraid to go out of their houses till now. The extremist Rakhine Buddhists are igniting the genocide and local security forces cooperating with them.

In Sittwe
“Today, three Hindus were arrested at Kyaung Gyi Quarter of Sittwe by the Military and sent to the Police custody. It is informed that these three Hindus were on their way to set fire to the Rohingyas’ villages at the Kyaung Gyi Lan area. According to a local man, the Hindus were asked and made to do so by the chairman of Kyaung Gyi who is a Rakhine. BARUA Buddhists (a sub-group of Rakhine who reside in both Bangladesh and Burma), Hindus of Bengali Origin are of same physical appearance, tongue and language, and similar culture and tradition with Rohingyas. Taking of advantage of their similarities with Rohingyas, they are being misused by the Rakhine extremist leaders for their own advantages. As a result, they have become tools for Rakhine extremists in violence against Rohingyas in Arakan so far.
In Myay-Bone
The houses of Rohingyas amid Rakhine villages were razed to the ground by the Rakhine hooligans in Myay-Bone today. Consequently, Rohingyas have become homeless and nowhere to take shelter. They are now in the situation of starvation and in the state of trauma with no hope. Besides, Rakhine brainwashed extremist youths have constantly been harassing Rohingyas and throwing stones at Rohingyas’ houses all the time (mostly at night). Even though Martial Law, which forbids ones to go out of their houses after 6pm, is declared and still in effect, Rakhines can freely move around and no authorities do anything to them who have been consistently attacking Rohingyas. Therefore, the Martial Law declared in Myay-Bone is effective to Rohingyas only.
In Buthidaung
On 6th August 2012, seven Rohingyas from Buthidaung Township were sentenced to ten years imprisonment. They were, at first, arrested from their respective homes and locked in the jail without any trial. Shockingly, later, they were prosecuted under “three sections of acts” though the cases against them were fabricated and pre-planned by the police head. As of the situation today, the police and court (which were made up of Rakhines) in collaboration with other hate-mongering extremist Rakhines can arrest, charge any Rohingya and put them into the jail anytime” reported by Thant Myo from Buthidaung.
In Kyawk Taw
We reported to you yesterday that one village in Kyawk Taw called Ambaari were torched by the Rakhine terrorists with the help of local Security Guards, Police and Military. “The village was razed to the ground today. Thousands of Rohingyas were displaced and are living with no shelter and food. All their (Rohingyas’) ways of access to foods are blocked by Rakhine murderers and authority. Hence, they are starving to death. Furthermore, we are informed many Rohingyas are being killed by Rakhines and local authorities. It is not confirmed yet how many numbers of Rohingyas were killed today” Alam reported from Buthidaung.
“Rohingyas have been being shot dead on their way back homes from their farmlands, bazaars and wherever they are found. Rohingyas who go out of their homes in search of foods, medicines are being arrested and put into the police custodies without any reason. They are, there, tortured by the authorities and Rakhines through different means and some of them are released after the extortion of huge amount of money. When Rohingyas defend to save their lives and properties, they are put into the prison for a long-term imprisonment with no reason. When Rakhines terrorize Rohingyas, they (Rakhines) are portrayed as victims. Hence, they are playing double standard. They are treated like slaves in the Dark Age from whom authorities always try to extort ransom amount of money for their releases and tortured whenever they like. They have become like animals or birds that are killed with no hesitance” an elderly Rohingya from Maung Daw exclaimed.
Compiled and Revised M.S. Anwar
We reported to you on 1st August 2012 in the link here that a high ranking police officer called U Hla Sein (tel: 0949676422) is taking extraordinary step towards cruelty and tortures to Rohingyas in Maung Daw. His barbarous brutalities and malice against Rohingyas continue as he has been extorting money arbitrarily besides severely abusing them physically and mentally. He listed some 40 people from Quarter 5 of Maung Daw and is in demand of astonishing amount of money from them. “So far, he has, without any reason, arrested following people from Quarter 5 and extorted 5.8 Million Kyats besides torturing them through various means.
1. Rofique S/o Dilmohammed
2. Noor Alom S/o Akka
3. Eusuf S/o Ma'son
4. Mohammed Alom S/o Sayed
5. Ana Mustafa S/o Abdul Gafar
6. Noor Alom
7. Abusayed
8. Abul Hashim S/o Shabiran
9. Shafiqul Islam S/o Mohammed Shafiq
Aung Kyaw Kant, another high ranking police officer, in collaboration with the chairman of Quarter 3 of Maung Daw, is also on the same trend of extortion of money and inhumanely abusing Rohingyas. Till date, he has arrested tortured and extorted money from the following people. (The amount of money extorted is shown in Million (M) Kyats (Myanmar Currency).
From Quarter-5:
1. Sayedul Amin S/o Sayed Kasim (5M Kyats)
2. Noor Hafez S/o Abu Sayed (0.8M Kyats)
3. Shafiqul Islam S/o Shafiq (1M Kyats)
4. Abdu Gafur S/o Basamya (1M Kyats)
5. Shafawdeen (a shop owner of Construction materials) (1.5M Kyats)
From Quarter-3:
1. Abdurhaman with other (11) people (1 M Kyats)
Moreover, the similar pattern of tortures and extortion of money from vulnerable Rohingyas are mercilessly carried out by NaSaKa in Camp Base 14 in Shwe Zar and KayinChaung based camps under the command of Captain BoGyi Kyaw Min in cooperation with his assistants Sit Oo Zi- Soe Thiha Hlaing (ph: 0949676453) and Aung Naing. Some of Rohingyas who were arrested and extorted money from are shown below.
On 1st August,
1. Ali Akbar S/o Bashir (31 years) (0.3M Kyats)
2. Islam S/o Khalu (35 years) (0.15M Kyats)
3. Ziyabur Rahaman S/o Halaya (28 years) (Gold Ear Rings from Women,
House Contract& 0.15M Kyats)
In late July, from Guna Village of Shwe Zar
1. Aziz S/o Adurazak (15years) (7M Kyats)
2. Baser S/o Fawzal (18 years) (1.7M Kyats)
3. Anwar Shanjeed S/o Nir Ahmed (3Diamon Family) (2M Kyats)
4. Jamal Uddin S/o Nabi Hussein (28years) (1.7M Kyats)
5. Md Taher S/o Dil Md (42years) (2.3M Kyats)
6. Anwar Sha@ Mg Mg Hla S/o Shamshu (23 years) (1.5M Kyats)
7. Mg Mg S/o Shamshu (25 years) (3M Kyats)
8. Mawnu S/o Abdul Ali (25years) (1M Kyats)
9. Naser Ahmed S/o Rashid (25 years) (1.7M Kyats)
10. Mohammed Ali S/o Bashar (Ex-Head Master of BEPS) (2.8 M.)
In Late July, from North Village of Shwe Zar
1. Enus S/o Usan Ahmed (31 years) (5M Kyats)
2. Eliyas S/o Rahamed (32 years) (5M Kyats)
3. Enus S/o Rahmed (35 years) (1M Kyats)
4. Alom S/o Halamya (36 years) (1.2M Kyats)
5. Anam Ullah S/o Rashid (25 years) (5M Kyats)
The NaSaKa mostly come at curfew time of the night with their puppet and troll Maung Maung Tin who enjoys 30% shares. There are many more places where the authorities are extorting money from Rohingyas by torturing and threatening to kill and that is happening on daily basis silently” reported by Rahim from Maung Daw.
“Whereas, at 6pm on 3rd August 2012, in Zular Para village of Mrauk-Oo Township, a group of Rakhine extremists numbering 8 to 10 armed with homemade weapons such as sharp-long knives, spears and lances attacked 5 Rohingya farmers near a paddy filed while coming back from their works. Consequently, two farmers died on the spot and other three, who were severely wounded, were fortunately able to escape from being killed. Then, the killers threw the dead bodies into river nearby the village. The next morning, the dead bodies were found in the river when some 40 Rohingya villagers were out on look for them. Their names and ages could not be confirmed yet. This is the second time Rohingyas were killed in Mrauk-Oo by Rakhines after the killings of four Rohingyas who also happened to be from the same village.
On the other hand, Rohingyas are unable to go from one village to another and banned by Monks and Rakhine leaders from buying foods, rations and medicines from the nearby Bazaar even though it is located within a kilometer from Rohingya villages such as Valti Para (Purin Rua), Fundukul, Tong Para, Dash Para, Zeeza Para and Zula Para. Every day, Rohingyas, most of whom are children and elderly people, are dying due to the lack of foods and medical care” reported by Mr. Hasan, a primary school teacher, from Purin Village of Mrauk-Oo at 9:30am on Saturday, 4th August 2012.
It is certain that if the situation continues for 2-3 months, all Rohingyas will die without being killed and the government’s and Rakhine extremists’ plan of extermination of Rohingyas will become true.
