A Rakhine Extremist Attacks an INGO Staff In Buthidaung

Buthidaung, Arakan – A Rohingya working for an INGO from France, Action Contre La Faim (ACF) in Buthidaung Township of Arakan State was attacked by a Rakhine extremist. 

On April 29th at 1 pm a driver from Action Contre La Faim (ACF) in Buthidaung Township was severely beaten by a Rakhine extremist. Rafique S/o Hamid Husson was driving with two foreign staff and the car was called to a stop by a Rakhine extremist, Atee Chay S/o Maung Tha Tun, from Ward (5), Buthidaung Township. Once the car stopped, the driver, Rafique, was inhumanely beaten by Atee Chay in presence of two ACF staff. 

Rafique’s face and stomach were wounded. According to locals, ACF office in Buthidaung informed the police and Ministry of Home Affair about the incident but it remains unknown what, if an action was taken by the government. 

Rafique, the driver at ACF, lives in Ward (5) Ywa Thit, Buthidaung Township.
